I've just seen two videos on u-tube where to rest the BMS all you need to do is replace battery, turn on ignition and within 10 seconds press rear foglamp button five times, then press hazard button three times. Battery light should then flash three times, job done.

Wire jumping off could give you really bright lights for a few seconds before they blew and electronics may fail, hopefully voltage regulation would prevent that with a bit of luck. You can ask them to obtain the key code too when they admit to touching the battery.

When engine is cold your two top hoses from front radiator should be soft when you squeeze them (that's mean thermostat is shut and car use small cycle -no fault) If two top hoses are hard, your thermostate is stuck open and coolant flow goes through front
