Anyway before writing in the forum I tried it, here my comment. Navigate or search for the Graphics Settings system settings panel on your machine. Select Universal App from the drop-down. Select Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition from the second drop-down menu. Now go to Options and choose High Performance .

Goingback to the OP, the decisions made to revamp the graphics in this game simply did not work out well. The 2007 Age III looked great and was easy to see what was going on. This new game is just a visual mess. I've tried for a long time to play with graphic settings, but cannot resolve any of the issues with AOE III DE.
InWindows 10, go to Settings -> Update and security -> Windows security -> click on Firewall and network protection -> Restore default firewall settings. After this, when you will run the application that connects to the Internet (eg Steam, Age of Empires 2 de) allow the firewall to connect.
Iinstalled the enhanced graphics download, and it shows as installed in the properties for the game, but in standard games I cannot choose it, it's still greyed out although it's checked and greyed out. Iwould recommend disabling all the new fancy lighting, blurry effects etc on the right side of the graphic settings. Then it all comes down to personal preference but most players prefer to put everything on low, both for clearness and for keeping the original feeling of the game.
